I look forward to teaching my Street Photography class at UCLA Extension and getting out into the city with the students. It’s a chance to get to know them on a more personal level, to gauge what makes them tick as photographers and see them at work on the streets. It also provides me a chance to wander as well, to explore the streets and neighborhoods I’ve walked many times over the years. And that’s a challenge because every photographer understands the difficulty in overcoming the mundane, but street photographer’s should excel at pushing past that barrier. After all, it’s the extraordinary from the ordinary that we seek, so there really should be no mundane. Just new moments in familiar places.
