Took my UCLA Extension students to Beverly Hills this past weekend as part of the 12 week Street Photography course. Spent most of my time watching, guiding and having a good time with them while also making a few images. One truth that students grapple with, in my opinion, is that there is no one answer to most photography related questions, especially street photography. What should they shoot? Whatever interests you, I say. What do I look for? Look for something that catches your attention, I reply. I guide them with examples in class, but the universal truth is that no two photographers are truly alike, so creating images is a process of self discovery. Some find it sooner than others, some struggle to find it.
