Sadly, I read today in the LA Times that Michael Heim, a professor and world renowned literary translator, passed away. I had the pleasure of meeting and photographing Michael a couple of years ago. He was incredibly interesting and very giving of his time. He lived in a beautiful, older home near the UCLA campus that spoke of the era when book shelves overflowing with rich volumes of text were often the centerpiece of a study or library. Michael told me he spent much of his time translating while looking out into his leafy, heavily shaded backyard and enjoyed the peace it brought him. Rest in peace, Michael.
